Roland Peil

Born in Essen (Germany), Roland Peil  received his training as a classical percussionist from 1978 to 1986 in Josef Offelder’s class. He won several federal awards at the “Jugend musiziert” contest and is a member of the Federal Youth Symphony Orchestra (Bundesjugendsinfonieorchester). During his later career, he studied jazz drums and percussion under Michael Küttner at the Kölner Musikhochschule. As a drummer and percussionist, he has performed in several well-known big bands and presented his solo project “Heroes in Toyland” in 1993 in celebration of the ice hockey world championship.

In 1995, he received instructions by Jose Luis “Changuito” Quintana, “Pancho” Quinto and others during his foreign studies in Cuba.
Peil has worked internationally with renowned artists such as Die Fantastischen Vier, Till Brönner, Peter Maffay, Paul van Dyk or Sarah Brightman. With his own project “Rolands Rumba” a.k.a. “Calvimetro”, he expresses his love to Afro-Cuban music. His open mind for various genres, flexibility, a great deal of enthusiasm and professionalism are his trademarks and enabled him to become one of the most sought-after percussionists in Europe.
